About Ms. Mason

Ms. Mason has been a school counselor at OPS since 2016.  She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over 15 years of experience working with children, families, couples and individuals on issues ranging from depression and anxieties to school refusal and suicide prevention.  She brings to OPS her knowledge and expertise in family systems therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and person-centered therapy.  Ms. Mason is honored to be using her skills and experience to support the children and families of OPS in reaching their full potential.

What is the best way to contact the school counselor?

Parents can call me at 201-261-1180, ext 1129 or e-mail me at [email protected].   Please understand I do my best to respond as soon as possible. I do check voicemail and email several times per day, but please be aware that I may be busy with students and not be able to respond immediately. If your concern is urgent, please contact the main office directly and let them know that you need to speak with me immediately. 

​Where is the school counselor office located?

Room 129 is located at the end of the main hallway, on the right, just before the double doors that lead to the library.

How can my child get an appointment with the school counselor?

Students usually ask their teacher if they can speak with me.  Teachers then decided the best time to excuse them from class to do so.  Usually, teachers will excuse students immediately, recognizing they will not be able to attend to the lesson with other matters on their mind.  Sometimes, however, teachers are not able to excuse a student immediately.  In those cases, another time will be determined between the teacher and student. 

​Other ways a student can arrange to speak with me include sending me an email ([email protected]), leaving a note on the whiteboard outside my office, leaving a note in my mailbox in the main office, asking a teacher to contact me on his/her behalf, or parents may call/email me with their concerns.
